Boston Public Library and Boston Pops

To say I was excited to go to the Boston Public Library would be a gross understatement. On our walk there, Darin actually looked over at me trying to hide a smile and said, "If only you looked at me the way you do a public library."

Every library that has books is beautiful, but wowee, this one was stunning, for so much more than just the books.

Look at that marble. And those lions!
Those two kids are pretty spectacular as well.

I do love me some good adult books, but picture books have my heart.
Making friends.
Checking out the massive story time chair.

Little did we know before arriving that there was a story time planned for the exact time that we were at the library. A really good story time I might add. Fun songs, engaging stories, energetic librarian, just what those little kids need.

How fitting that the Boston Public Garden is just down the road a bit from the library. This garden appears in the famous picture book, Make Way for Ducklings.

The Public Garden was beautiful. Definitely a spot I would visit often if I lived in Boston.

We then went to check out Beacon Hill, which is a really cute neighborhood with some fancier houses and beautiful cobblestone roads. We walked up Acron st. which is famous for being one of the most narrow streets, and also being one of the few streets with the original cobblestones still in place.

After Beacon Hill, we crossed over to Boston Commons where we cooled off (or tried too, the water was quite warm) in the frog pond.

I believe it was this day that we also stopped in at Granary Burying Ground. This is where Benjamin Franklin's parents were buried, along with Paul Reverie, John Hannock, and even Mother Goose!

We went back to the hotel, grabbed some yummy Greek food and then headed right back out to get to the Boston Pops Concert--which was SO GOOD. It was quite the walk to get there, and we didn't leave as early as we had hoped, so we ended up squeezing in on a patch of grass without the best view. We were so glad that we had the kids and a stroller with us though because they pushed us right through the suuuuuper long line at security. There are definitely perks to hauling a big ol' stroller around a city with you, not many, maybe just this one really...

It ended up being a cloudy, rainy evening. They stopped the show just about right after it started due to rain. This worked out in our favor because (surprisingly) a lot of people started to get up and leave. We took advantage of that and squeezed our way on to the main field in hopes that the show would still go on. A bit of rain wasn't going to stop our 4th of July Boston fun.

The concert was a blast. The kids loved singing along to Fight Song by Rachel Platten and the rest of us were blown away by an artist we had never heard of before, Rhiannan (check her out). BelĂ©n made it until a little after 10, crashing right before the grand finale, the 1812 overture! She slept through every single cannon. Shae was squealing with joy during that last piece, Amelia may have been too :).
The rain really started to come down after the concert, on our walk back to the subway and home. Hard to tell from the picture, but we were drenched. Still totally worth it. And thankfully (in this situation at least) east coast rain doesn't bring cooler temperatures at all, so we didn't get cold while wet which was a plus.

Such a fun night.
