First Day in Bali

Early 5 a.m. wake up call for us to grab a taxi and get to the airport to catch our flight to Bali.
Waiting at the airport.

Hopping on the airplane.
BALI!
Bali welcoming us with style.

We met up with our driver outside of the airport. (We hired a driver for our time there that some members from our ward had recommended to us). Then we were off to meet up with Amelia and her friend who were already waiting for us at the hotel. We were so excited to be doing this trip with Aunt Amelia. From the second we got off the plane Belen wouldn't stop asking, "Where's Aunt Amelia!?" When we arrived, we were planning on going straight to the beach, but the kids took one look at the pool and lazy river and had to get in.

We let them play in the pool for a bit before taking off to Melasti beach for a quick stop on our way to the Uluwatu temple. We stopped at the top for a couple pictures. (That water! It was so clear and so warm).

It started raining the second we pulled up to the beach. It definitely wasn't the most pleasant beach experience due to all the rain, but we still managed to have some fun in the water.

Sandy and wet, we next made our way to the Uluwatu temple. Our driver was quite helpful in making sure we knew where to get tickets and helping us put on our sarongs. We walked around the temple for a bit before making our way to the seating for the Kecak fire dance. While walking around, we could see monkeys all over the place. Thankfully none of them came very close to us. I had heard so many stories of the monkeys stealing things (glasses, hats, things hanging out of backpacks).

Such a beautiful view right on the edge of the cliff.

I wasn't sure how the kids would handle the hour long fire dance, but they really liked it! It helped that Amelia had grabbed a program that told the story about what we were watching. We would tell them what was happening (to the best of our understanding) and that really helped engage them. Belen especially loved the princess (entering the act in the picture below).

We stopped for something to eat on our way back to the hotel and crashed hard that night.
