Jesuit Ruins

The Jesuit Ruins are one of the few tourist destinations in Paraguay (other than Iguazu falls). I read in a few blog articles that these ruins are one of the least visited places on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. We did end up having the ruins all to ourselves that afternoon.

The sun was pretty bright, hence Shae's I-will-open-my-eyes-and-try-to-smile-when-you-say-so face. He tried.
We had a really great time wandering around the ruins, admiring what was left of this Jesuit community from the 1600s. The kids loved pretending they were in schools, houses, hospitals, etc.

We were very impressed with the designs and detail in the architecture of the buildings.

Little baptismal font.

Shae was really bummed that the door to the bell tower was closed so he didn't get to go up.

Wishing on the biggest dandelion ever.
As we were walking out, another couple appeared so we were able to get a family photo.
After the Trinidad ruins, we drove the 12 kilometers over to the Jesus ruins. It was not as large and spread out as the first ones. It was more just one big structure with everything connected. It was still very cool to explore.
