Visit to Taman Mini

Our last Saturday (other than the one RIGHT before we left which was spent packing and cleaning) we decided to go to Taman Mini. We had heard good things about this location, but we were also very unsure of what to expect since it was hard to find lots of information online. We almost chickend out since we had heard the park is massive and we don't have our own car to get around, or even a stroller. But we went for it and I'm so glad we did.

It's basically a massive park of Indonesia. Many cities/islands are represented with their own typical houses and information about each place. There are also a bunch of different museums and water/kid stuff. You have to pay for the museums individually so we tried to pick and choose carefully what we did. We were happy with how much the kids enjoyed just looking at the different province locations and playing "king and queen" in the different houses.

We chose to go to the Space and Technology museum which had some fun space stuff to look at.
And then randomly had this insane water area outside. It was CRAZY. But it was also VERY hot, so instead of running and hiding we let the kids play while trying not to get pushed out of the way by all the parents watching out for their children.

This bucket took FOREVER to drop. Shae waited very patiently underneath it until it did.

This poor lifeguard had to watch over a hundred kids and didn't even get a chair!?

So many times in these touristy places our kids get waved over in hopes that they can convince us to buy something from a souvenir shop. These bunnies were no different. Workin' it! They waved our kids over and of course they couldn't not go--"Look at the bunnies!"

The bunnies encourage us to take a picture and then as soon as we're done they lift their heads off and start asking us for money.

We only ended up seeing about half the things the park had to offer (seriously, it was SO big), but Darin wanted to make sure we got to Sulawesi as that is where his Indonesia teacher of the past 3 years is from. Traditional house in Sulawesi:
The other museum we decided to go to was the Reptile House. I was so so so so SO impressed with the kid's bravery here. When the employee offered to let Shae hold this snake, I was sure he would say NO WAY. But he didn't! He nervously put it on him and never took his eyes off of it. Every time it's head moved he flinched a little, but for real! What a champ.
Belen had no interest in the snake, but was excited about this croc.

Seeing this snake eat a chicken was one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen, but it also made the entire trip worth it for me. It was crazy cool.
We took the high sky ride back to the entrance of the park and enjoyed the view of this layout of the islands of Indonesia in the lake.
This castle was really cool from the sky. Apparently it was a kid park place, but from the ground everything looked so dinky and you had to pay for each ride individually. The kids loved seeing the princess' castle in the air.

It took her about 1.5 minutes to CRASH after we got in the taxi.

It was a fun day for our last Jakarta excursion.
