National Library and Monas Visit

A couple weeks ago we tagged along with Darin one day while he was working at the National Library. I didn't anticipate finding many English books there, but couldn't pass up the opportunity to see the library.

It is a really beautiful library, with some cool displays on the bottom floor that the kids really enjoyed looking at. While waiting to get a library card we had some picture opportunities.

I let Shae take over my phone while I was getting my picture taken for the library card.

The kids area was really nice. We looked through all the books on the half a shelf that were English, which didn't take too long and then the kids were ready to leave.

Loved this colorful painting on the wall. Shae is pretending to read a book...

We then went up to the very top floor of the library building to see the view of Monas (National Monument). It did not disappoint.
Since we were so close I thought it would be silly to not go over and check it out. We were planning on just looking at it, but then it took us forever just to find the entrance in to the park, and Shae really wanted to go to the top, and since we were already there...we went for it.
When the 3 year old is trying to take a picture of mom and brother, but people keep sticking their phones out to get selfies with her...

Love this picture that Belen took.
It took us another forever to find the entrance to actually go up to the top of the monument. The signage was lacking, and the entrance ended up being across the street and underground. We then had to wait for quite some time for our elevator number to be called. The kids were really good, I was so impressed with how they behaved with all the waiting.
Unfortunately after so much waiting, and so many people wanting to take pictures with the kids, it all came to a head when we reached the top and a huge group of people came over, all with cameras wanting pictures. The kids ignored for awhile. I apologized and asked if they wanted my picture instead, haha.
Then poor Belen just lost it. She was so over the picture taking. Poor thing.
I was able to calm her down for a bit by giving her my phone and telling her to go take pictures with people. She liked being in control of the picture taking.
View of the library from the top of Monas. Such a pretty view.
The trolly ride back to the park entrance saved us all, and was probably the coolest part at the end of the day for the kids.
